WORKFORCE Dental Staffing

Options

Have us do it, or do it yourself

Two questions decide which of these fits: who goes and finds the person, and who employs them once found. Everything else, what it costs and what lands on your practice, follows from those two.

The whole set, side by side

Note that only one row has our name in the employer column. On every other option the practice employs the person, which is normal, and it means the compliance is yours the same way it would be for anyone else on your payroll.

Filling a permanent seat

Either we run the search or you do. The person ends up on your payroll both ways, so the real choice is whether you want the hunting done for you.

02

Fifteen days of posting, free

Through our partnership with OnlyDentalJobs you can list a permanent role for fifteen days at no cost and run the whole thing yourself. You write the ad, you field the replies, you screen and interview.

Worth knowing

This is a listing, not a search. You may end up with a strong shortlist and you may end up with nobody, and which of those happens is genuinely out of our hands. Nobody is working the role on your behalf while it's up.

Suits you if

  • You've hired before and you know what you're looking for.
  • You have somebody who can work through applicants properly.
  • You'd rather spend time than money on this one.

Covering a day

Here the employer question is live. In our markets we can be the employer for the booking; outside them, or on the Ontario rate, the practice is.

03

Self-Service

Everywhere

You choose them. You manage them. Search our candidate network, pick your own people, and everything after that stays with your practice. It's the one level we can run anywhere, because a network is not a service.

Worth knowing

Vetting, onboarding, employment, payroll and scheduling are all yours on this one. What you're buying is the network.

Suits you if

  • You want access to people, not a service around them.
  • You already run payroll and carry your own coverage.
  • Somebody there handles employment paperwork properly.
04

Managed

Alberta and Ontario

We pick them. You employ them. Put in a shift and we choose the professional who fills it, then stay on hand while it settles in. Onboarding and employment stay with your practice.

Worth knowing

We choose and support. Onboarding, payroll and the employment relationship are still the practice's, so the classification question stays with you.

Suits you if

  • You want shifts filled without running a search yourself.
  • You'd rather not work through a shortlist.
  • You can carry the employment but not the sourcing.
05

Full Service

BC, Alberta, Ontario, Washington

We find them. We employ them. We run the whole staffing process and the professional is on our payroll for the booking, so the only thing left on your plate is the work in the operatory.

Worth knowing

Shift cover only, and only where we operate. On a permanent hire the practice employs from day one no matter which level you use.

Suits you if

  • Somebody called out and the day is already booked.
  • You're covering a leave and don't want a second payroll to run.
  • You'd rather not carry the classification question at all.
06

Fifteen days of posting for temps

Everywhere

Not a service level. The OnlyDentalJobs partnership lets you list for temp cover for fifteen days and arrange it with whoever answers, directly. It runs in every market, including the ones we staff ourselves.

Worth knowing

There's no placement here and no vetted pool. Whoever answers is engaged by you directly, which makes the classification, the coverage and the credential check yours, and there's no guarantee anybody answers at all.

Suits you if

  • You want to build up your own bench of regulars.
  • You already know how you want to engage and pay them.
  • You'd rather cast wide than search a network.

Before you take a level where you employ them

Self-Service and Managed both leave your practice as the employer, and plenty of practices are set up for that. They’re also the arrangements where something we’d absorb on Full Service lands back on you, so they’re worth picking deliberately rather than off a price.

You become the employer

Classification, payroll and remittances, and the employment standards obligations for the booking are the practice’s from the first hour. If the arrangement is later reassessed, it’s reassessed against you.

Coverage has to be yours

Liability coverage that actually extends to the person doing the work, and a WSIB account in good standing, both sit with the practice. Worth confirming with your broker rather than assuming an existing policy stretches.

Verification works differently here

Dentists are registered with the RCDSO and hygienists with the CDHO, so both can be checked against a college. Dental assisting isn’t a regulated profession in Ontario, so there’s no college register to check at all, and it runs on the NDAEB certificate and on what the RCDSO requires of the supervising dentist.

Read what these obligations cost when they’re missed

We wrote the penalties out with the authority that sets each one, for both countries. It’s the same list on any option where you’re the employer; the only question is whose name is on it.

This page describes how our staffing arrangements work and is not legal or tax advice. Availability differs by market: temp cover with us as employer of record exists only where we operate, while self-service and job postings run everywhere. A job posting is a listing rather than a guarantee of a hire. Check anything you plan to act on with your own advisor.

Not sure which one you want?

Tell us the role, the market, and whether you already run payroll, and we’ll tell you which of these actually fits.
