WORKFORCE Dental Staffing

Dental hygienists

A hygiene column with nobody in it is the most expensive thing in the practice.

Eight appointments, three weeks of recall, and a morning of phone calls to undo it. WORKFORCE covers hygiene days across British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, and Washington, at set rates published by city.

Three ways to fill it

Cover the day, or keep the person

Most offices start at the first rung because something went wrong on a Tuesday. A good share of them end up at the third with somebody they met on that Tuesday.

Same day to next day

Temp coverage

One shift, a week, or a run of Fridays. You post the day, a hygienist inside travel distance claims it, and they arrive ready to work your column.

  • Licensing and insurance verified on the placement
  • Payroll, remittances and insurance sit with us
  • An all-in hourly rate, set by city
How temp coverage works

If they want it

Temp to perm

If a hygienist you have worked with suits the practice, we will ask whether they want a permanent role. Most hygienists temping with us are temping deliberately, so plan your hire on the search and treat a yes here as a bonus.

  • No commitment until you make one
  • The answer belongs to the hygienist
  • A placement fee applies only on conversion
How temp to perm works

A search, run properly

Permanent placement

When you want the column filled by the same person every week, we run a search across our network and a short list comes back to you.

  • We approach hygienists who are working, not browsing
  • You interview and you decide
  • You are the employer, with the checks that go with it

What walks in on the morning

A hygienist covering a day for you is not being trained on your time. They have run somebody else’s column before, and usually several.

Scope of practice differs between provinces and states, and between one hygienist and the next. What a given professional may do on your day is whatever their registration and your jurisdiction allow, which is worth confirming when you post.

  • 01Scaling, root planing, and polishing
  • 02Periodontal probing and charting
  • 03Radiographs to your protocol
  • 04Fluoride, sealants, and desensitizing
  • 05Recall notes written into your software
  • 06Handover to the dentist for the exam

Set rates, by city

Nobody is bidding against anybody

We set one hygienist rate per city and publish it. An office cannot pay under it, and a hygienist cannot hold a Friday hostage over it. Everyone knows the number before the shift is posted.

On a temp placement that rate is all-in. Payroll taxes, remittances, vacation accrual, and insurance are ours, not a line you reconcile afterwards. A placement fee only enters the picture if you take someone permanent.

Rates are held in each region’s own currency. If your city is not listed, ask us. We would rather tell you we are not there yet than take a posting we cannot fill.

Who checks what

This changes the moment a placement stops being temporary, and the difference is worth spelling out rather than leaving you to assume.

On a temp placement the hygienist is our employee, so those checks are ours to run and ours to stand behind. On a permanent hire you are the employer, and confirming registration standing and insurance is your responsibility and your advisors’. We introduce the candidate and pass on what we hold.
