Hamilton, Ontario
Dental staffing in Hamilton
Book temp dental hygienists, dental assistants and front office staff across the lower city, the mountain and the former towns. A city with a pool of its own, split down the middle by the escarpment.
Why this city is different
Six kilometres, and a hill in the way
The escarpment runs through the middle of Hamilton, and everybody who lives here organises around it. This is not a city with a hill in it. It is a lower city and a mountain, joined by a handful of access roads that carry all of it.
So distance is the wrong measure. A practice a few kilometres away can be an awkward trip if the wrong access sits between you at half past eight, and a longer one can be easy.
Trips inside one city
Weekday morning6 km apart, either way
Short on a map and entirely dependent on the access roads. Everything coming down converges on a few of them at once, which is why a six kilometre trip is not a six kilometre trip at half past eight.
Approximate weekday morning times, not measurements. We match on the trip a professional has told us they will genuinely make, which is why the direction matters as much as the distance.

Temp and permanent dental hygienists in Hamilton
RDHThe deepest local hygiene pool between Toronto and London, and one that mostly stays in the city. Which half of the escarpment you are on decides which part of it you realistically see.

For Hamilton practices
Which half are you on
Say lower city or mountain
It is the first thing anybody here wants to know and it never appears in postings. It tells a professional more than your postcode does.
Name your nearest access
The climb is the trip. Somebody deciding whether your eight o'clock start is realistic is working out which access they would be sitting on.
Recruit inside the city
This is a market with real depth of its own. Effort spent building relationships here beats effort spent advertising east.
Credentials are ours on temp
CDHO registration for hygienists, RCDSO for locum dentists, and the NDAEB certificate plus HARP where an assistant takes radiographs. One invoice at an all-in hourly rate.
For Hamilton professionals
Set your radius by the climb
Shape your radius by the accesses
A circle on a map is the wrong model here. What you will actually drive depends on which way you are crossing the escarpment and when.
Real depth without leaving town
Enough practices across both halves of the city to build a regular week without ever driving toward Toronto.
The former towns count separately
Dundas, Ancaster and Stoney Creek are their own trips. Being open to one of them specifically is worth saying.
One tax form, however many practices
Every shift runs through WORKFORCE, so a year across Hamilton, Burlington and St. Catharines lands on a single T4.
Hamilton staffing questions
Why does the escarpment matter for staffing?
Because it turns one city into two and everything crossing between them funnels onto a handful of access roads. A practice six kilometres from a professional's home can be an awkward trip if the wrong access sits between them at the wrong hour. Locals think in terms of the lower city and the mountain rather than in kilometres, and a posting that says which one you are on is far more useful than one that says Hamilton.
Is Hamilton one market or several?
One pool, several habits. Dundas, Ancaster, Stoney Creek and Waterdown were separate towns until 2001 and they still behave like it, so somebody in Dundas does not casually work Stoney Creek. The pool is genuinely city-wide, but the trips inside it are longer than a single municipal name suggests.
Can I recruit from Toronto or Mississauga?
Rarely, and it is usually effort better spent elsewhere. Burlington is the furthest east that people routinely travel from for a day of work here. The good news is that you do not need to: Hamilton has a university and two major hospital sites and a genuine local supply of dental professionals, which is not true of most markets its size.
So what actually fills a shift here?
Notice, and being specific. Because the pool is local rather than topped up from outside, the practice that asks first tends to get the person. Naming your half of the city and your nearest access road does more than widening the search would, because widening it reaches people who were never going to come.
Who employs the temp professional in my Hamilton practice?
We do, on temp and locum bookings. For hygienists we confirm registration in good standing with the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario, and for locum dentists with the RCDSO. Dental assisting is not a regulated profession in Ontario, so there we confirm the NDAEB certificate for Level II duties and HARP certification where the role involves radiographs. On a permanent hire your practice is the employer and runs its own checks.
I live here. How wide should my radius be?
Wider than you think, but shaped by the escarpment rather than drawn as a circle. Somebody on the mountain reaches the whole mountain and Ancaster easily and the lower city with more planning. Setting your radius by the accesses you are willing to use will match what you would actually drive far better than a distance will.
Whichever side of the chair you are on
Temporary staffing, permanent placement and dentist locum cover throughout Hamilton, for the practices that need people and the professionals who want the work.
For dental offices
Cover the chair, or fill the role
Say which half of the escarpment you are on and which access is nearest. It is the first thing anybody here works out and it almost never appears in a posting.
For dental professionals
Pick up the work
Shape your radius by the accesses you are willing to use rather than by distance. There is enough work across both halves to build a regular week without leaving the city.
