How quickly can I get a temp dental hygienist in downtown Toronto?
This is the best market in the country for short notice, because the pool within twenty minutes of a downtown practice is larger than the entire pool in most cities we cover. Post the shift with the intersection or nearest station, the role and the date, and it reaches verified hygienists whose radius covers you. On temp bookings the hygienist is our employee, so CDHO registration, insurance and payroll are ours.
If the pool is that deep, why would a shift go unfilled?
Because downtown is the one market where you are competing rather than reaching. A hygienist here can choose between several shifts on the same Tuesday, so the question is not whether anybody can get to you but why they would pick you. Parking, the hours, how the day is booked and how clearly the posting is written all matter more here than travel time does.
Should we mention parking?
Yes, and downtown it is probably the single most useful line in your posting. Most professionals here arrive by TTC and will plan for that, but if you do have parking, or validate it, say so, because it removes a real cost from their day. If you do not, saying that is just as valuable: it tells somebody to leave the car at home rather than discover the situation at ten to eight.
What does the patient base look like?
More varied than anywhere else we staff, and less settled. Downtown practices carry a high share of working professionals booking around their own schedules, plus students and new arrivals, which means more new patients and more movement than a suburban family book. Midtown and the older residential neighbourhoods sit closer to a traditional recall practice.
Who employs the temp professional in my downtown practice?
We do, on temp and locum bookings. For hygienists we confirm registration in good standing with the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario, and for locum dentists with the RCDSO. Dental assisting is not a regulated profession in Ontario, so there we confirm the NDAEB certificate for Level II duties and HARP certification where the role involves radiographs. On a permanent hire your practice is the employer and runs its own checks.
I live downtown. Is it worth working outside the core?
It is worth considering, and the reason is the traffic rather than the money. A reverse commute out of the city in the morning is one of the quicker trips in the region, and suburban practices get noticeably fewer claims than downtown ones. If you are willing to go outward, you will see work that other people are turning down.
