Bellevue has rail. Redmond has rail. Since March 2026 both of them can hire a professional who lives in Seattle and does not own a car. Kirkland sits between them with no station at all, and the bus rapid transit planned for the I-405 corridor is a 2029 opening.
So the advice that works everywhere else on this shore does not work here. Widening the search reaches people who cannot come. What fills a chair in Kirkland is a driver who already lives nearby, and asking them before somebody else does.

None, and none due this decade. It is the largest city on the east shore of the lake in that position, while Bellevue and Redmond both have stations. Until then every professional working in Kirkland arrives by car or by local bus, and a posting written on any other assumption is aimed at people who cannot take it.
So is Kirkland harder to staff than its neighbours?

Did the light rail crossing in March 2026 change anything for us?
Indirectly, and not in your favour. The crossing made Bellevue and Redmond reachable for professionals in Seattle who do not drive, which grew their pools without growing yours. The practical response is not to compete on reach, which you will lose, but to compete on notice and on being a straightforward place to work: known parking, a clear start time and a booking note that answers questions before they are asked.
How much notice should I give for a temp booking?
More than a Bellevue practice needs, for a structural reason rather than a shortage. The set of people who can realistically reach you is smaller, so the first practice to ask tends to get them. Same-day cover happens here and it happens most reliably for practices that also book their known gaps well ahead.
Who employs the temp professional in my Kirkland practice?
